Aeolian Simulation Laboratory

Equipment/facility: lab

    Description

The Aeolian Simulation Laboratory is focus on the study on sand and dust transport on Earth and other planets such as Mars. This includes the formation of aeolian sand ripples, mechanisms of dust emission from soils, and environmental impacts of desert dust storms. We explore the fundamental physics of sand and dust transport using wind tunnel experiments, analyses of sand and dust samples, and numerical modelling. The advanced knowledge generated in the lab is applied to develop methods to control dust emissions in soils, and to monitor atmospheric dust with relation to air pollution and human health.
