Description
We are curious of the genomic basis underlying the emergence of complex organisms. As endosymbiosis between mitochondria and an archeon gave rise to all eukaryotes, and since complex organisms radiated only from eukaryotes, we hypothesize that mito-nuclear coordination is critical to this dramatic event. To test this hypothesis, we investigate the coevolution and coregulation of the mitochondrial and nuclear genomes in a variety of organisms, health and physiological conditions, using functional genomics and cell culture techniques.
