Quasi collectivity at high energy: from CGC Wave Function to Particle Production.

Project Details

Description

BSF proposal #2018722Quasi collectivity at high energy: from CGC Wave Func-tion to Particle ProductionA. Kovner and M. LublinskyShort Abstract in Layman's termsThe microscopic theory describing the structure of protons and nuclei is the theory of stronginteractions, know as Quantum ChromoDynamics (QCD). Even though the fundamental theoryis known, it is extremely dicult to deduce from the QCD results of collision processes. This isdue to the high level of complexity of the theory involving mutual interactions between gluons, the "photons" of strong interactions. When probed at very high energies, heavy nuclei, and evenprotons, appear as very dense clouds of gluons, the state known as Color Glass Condensate(CGC). The main objective of this proposal is to develop a program for understanding ofcollective phenomena produced in heavy ion collisions using rst principle QCD calculation.

We will confront our calculations against variety of experimental collider data. The relevantexperiments involve proton-nucleus, and heavy ion collisions at Large Hadron Collider at CERNand Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory, as well as futureelectron ion collider.
