Abstract

Based on interviews with survivors from Ruthenia, as well as testimonies and memorial books, relates the fate of Ruthenian Jews in the Holocaust. Describes events from the Hungarian annexation of the area in 1939, including the deportation and murder in 1941 of Jews who did not possess Hungarian citizenship, the induction of Jewish men into Hungarian military labor service units, the deportations to Auschwitz in 1944, and experiences there and in other camps. Pp. 163-308 contain interviews with or testimonies of 13 Jews who lived in the area.
