Abstract

Describes and characterizes Zionist activities in Iraq and emigration from Iraq in the context of political events in Iraq and the struggle over Palestine. Chs. 1, 5-10 (pp. 11-23, 103-246) deal, also, with the anti-Jewish riots in Baghdad in June 1941 and anti-Jewish acts incited by Iraq's involvement in the struggle over Palestine. also discusses the effect of Zionist activities and events in Palestine on the increase in antisemitism, the worsening of the legal status of the Jews, restrictions on emigration from Iraq, and Zionist and communal activities. Asserts that the 1941 pogroms and the involvement of Iraq in the Palestinian struggle, as well as intense Zionist activities, changed the aspirations of the majority of the Jews of Iraq, culminating in the mass emigration to Israel after 1948.
