Abstract

The word המן occurs in the Dead Sea Scrolls as a variant of מן (4Q386 1 ii 4). It has been compared with המנו in mishnaic Hebrew where it occurs alongside ממנו. Yet the suffixless form המן is attested neither in mishnaic Hebrew nor elsewhere in Hebrew. In the Dead Sea Scrolls only מן is used. I therefore suggest that המן be understood as a compound of הא and מן.
