Abstract

When the State of Israel was established, the political instance was dominant in the structure: This instance decided the relative autonomy of other instances, mainly, that of the economy. The Zionist-Socialist parties gained a solid majority in politics and controlled almost every institution in Israel. It appeared as if Israelis embarking on a socialist project. Post factum, this did not happen. Already in the first decade of the State's existence, the socialist model was abandoned by those who were supposed to turn it into a real project. Socialism was just the scaffolding in the process of State building. Eventually, the presumed socialist project was dismantled.
