Abstract
The paper deals with the question whether the process of privatization of health care in Israel is positive or negative. The commodification of welfare services is one of the main characteristics of the neo-liberal socio-economic model. The present paper analyzes the forms the privatization of health care services took in Israel, before and after the legislation of the National Health Insurance law. The article shows that the commodification of health services took place at three different levels: the financing of services, the ownership or facilities and the adoption of a "business- culture" by the public health sector and analyzes its problematic consequences both from the point of view of equality and efficiency.
