This collection of information represents almost 40 years of note-taking. It focuses on rabbinic responsa from eastern Europe from approximately 1550 until the mid-seventeenth century. There are also references to ethical literature, talmudic commentaries, communal ordinances, and some secondary literature. The file may be downloaded and used free of charge.
The subject headings in the database are highly idiosyncratic and should not be construed as anything other than a reflection of my interests, many of which have changed over time. It is presented to users “as is,” with mistakes, oversights, and typographic errors. I am happy to receive corrections at the e-mail address listed below. The file will be updated occasionally and re-posted as I read or reread material. The database version is reflected in the date at the beginning of the file and is included in the running header.
The editions used are listed at the beginning of the file. Since I began reading these texts, new editions have been released. I have not attempted to update my reference list because the references to section numbers (simanim) remain valid in almost all cases.
