Abstract
Traditional practices of football fans violence are still part of modern football, even in the 21st century. By tracking the historical roots of the“violent fan”, through the exploration of common approaches of European sport scholars, this paper tempts to uncover and analysis the study case of extreme right-wing football fan organization La Familia, the new radical football fans, perpetuate the tight bond between sport and politics, using symbols of the national state and the laws of democratic regime, through assimilating the usage of violent in the public space, as if it was to be a vital necessity to the game of football itself. The analysis of the study case will offer, respectively, a hybrid term of two dominant forms of fanatic practices in post-modern era of football: Ultra Hooligans. By exploiting liberal values of freedom of speech and freedom of association while maintaining a status of “sport fans”, digital era new fanatics are pointing out differences and emphasize their self-goal of remaining in constant rivalry to other football clubs, against the government and in oppose to modern sport values and FAIR PLAY. This paper relies, among others, on the findings of a qualitative inter-disciplinary research examined the organizations’ activities between2013-2016 including interviews, field observations, and data from social media, sport journals and newspapers.
