Abstract

Cancer treatment with radiation must be accompanied by a reliable dosimetry. Particularly in brachytherapy, where the radiation source is inserted into the tumor. In brachytherapy the dose at every point of the tumor is due to radiation coming directly from the source and radiation coming from all directions due to scattering within the tumor. The dose must be measured as locally as possible. We have developed a 4π point dosimeter based on spherical diodes. The diodes diameter was 1.8 mm and it was found to provide a perfect spherically symmetric dosimetry. The measurements were compared to commercial planar diode, TLD dosimeters and to Monte Carlo calculations.
