Abstract

The production of free chlorine at the anode in electrodialysis processes causes deterioration of the membranes. The production of free chlorine could be reduced significantly by decreasing the transport number of the chloride ions in the anode chamber. This was achieved by introducing a solid polymer electrolyte (ion-exchange resin) in the anode.
