Abstract
This paper presents a current taxonomy of inventory systems. Tbe taxonomy is based on a systematic invocation of twelve basic assumptions. As the assumptions are relaxed, a better approximation to a realistic inventory control problem is achieved. The paper further classifies the various systems based on the method of solution used, the availability of computer use, the ease of updating the model results with a change in variable values, the complexity of the model, and the data require-ments in operating the model.
