Abstract
Application of the curve crossing model to singlet carbene addition to alkenes reveals that for electrophilic carbenes the reaction barrier is generated from the avoided crossing of DA, 3D* 3A* and D+A- configurations whereas for nucleophilic carbenes the third configuration is D-A+.
