Abstract

The paper examines how a foreign country used a domestic NGO to influence the US foreign policy agenda toward the Soviet Union. The paper examines the interaction between the Israeli government and the American Jewish Committee (AJC) in the advocacy effort for Soviet Jewry within the American political system. The Israeli government used several American Jewish organizations to pressure American foreign policy toward the Soviet Union’s treatment of its Jewish citizens. It covers the period from the late 1960s through the late 1970s.
