Abstract
Mass transfer rates of Newtonian and non-Newtonian liquids were studied in a semi-batch bubble column reactor of 50 liters volume. The liquids used were Newtonian water-glycerol solutions, and the non-Newtonian CMC solutions. Mass transfer measurements were done by the dynamic method. A global approach for global shear rate evaluation is introduces, based on hydrodynamic principles. This approach revealed a simple, single relationship between the mass transfer coefficients and the global shear rate in the column for all different liquids.
