Abstract

The sheer number of migrating birds that pass over Israel give the country a unique situation in the study of the phenomenon, which was, not surprisingly, noticed even in biblical times. This paper is a review of current knowledge of bird migration in Israel. It includes a brief summary of migration in the Mediterranean basin and the Middle East and new information from an extensive migration survey done in the northern Arava Valley and Negev Highlands.
