Abstract
The phase velocities of parallel-propagating waves are calculated for the particle distribution functions that emerge from Monte Carlo models of quasi-parallel shocks. It is found that the phase velocities can be considerably super-Alfvénic and are typically of the order of 10% of the shock velocity.
