Abstract
Using dimensional reduction, we derive the reparametrization-invariant electromagnetic self-interaction of a test string. The exact non-singular solution corresponding to a stationary circular loop is specified. The collapse is dynamically prevented provided nenm ≠ 0, where ne (nm) count total number of electric charges (magnetic fluxons). The selection rule ne+nm = 2N (N is an integer) suggests that a fundamentally-charged loop must carry current and hence acquire spin ∼nenm.
