N2 - The physical absorption of carbon dioxide into a free and very rapid water film is investigated experimentally, showing good agreement with the theoretical model predictions. The laminar fan-shaped sheet, obtained using a spray nozzle, provides high specific area ranging from about 1000 to 4000 cm-1, and very short exposure times ranging from 0.38 to 1.5 milliseconds. Thus, the fan spray device may be most useful for studying absorption under conditions characterized by short exposure time, such as in the presence of extremely rapid chemical reactions or in the presence of the time-dependent effect of surfactants.
