Accounting for Cross-Linguistic Variation in Modification by Depictives

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

Abstract

Depictives are constituents (typically APs) that describe a stage-level property of a participant of the situation described by the main verb. A depictive must not be a subconstituent of the DP that expresses the participant. I will use the term “host” for the participant modified by the depictive, and indicate the relationship between a depictive and its possible hosts by indices.(1) a.
