Abstract
Many systems deteriorate with age. Diseases such as hypertension and its complications confound the aging process. Exercise and drug therapy can lower blood pressure. Age is not a contraindicator to training. With training, gradual and persistent aerobic (dynamic) activity can overcome the reduced cardiovascular capacity in hypertensive patients caused by β-blockade. All other antihypertensives lower blood pressure, but do not blunt performance.
