Agility: The origins, the vision and the reality

This paper recounts the history of the 1991 project that popularized the concepts of Agility, reviews the main aspects of Agility, and briefly compares current industrial business practice with that predicted by the 1991 study. Some outstanding challenges for practice and research are outlined.
