Abstract

The manner in which algae are cultivated varies widely, depending not only on the specific organism, but also on the use to be made of the culture. The aim of this chapter is to describe the basic approaches in measuring algal growth and some of the most common techniques used, as well as to indicate the problems associated with them. It is not intended to provide a detailed manual on the different procedures used. More detailed information may be found in the literature referred to in the text.
