Abstract
The basic algorithm for the calculation of the second moment for geometrical splitting is presented. This algorithm is derived from the results of the DSA method applying the surface point approximation. Further, infinite sets of path's from the source to the detector are analytically grouped together and a second algorithm is developed which is more inclusive and more efficient than the basic algorithm, Considerations related to the actual use of the DSA method in optimization of geometrical splitting parameters in general purpose Monte Carlo codes are discussed.
