Abstract
The author examines the interrelationship between economic factors and fertility behavior at the family level in the relatively underdeveloped Northeast Region of Brazil. Data are from a sample of 176 rural households in the region. Factors examined include age of mother, age of wife at marriage, size of land worked, ownership of land, literacy of husband, education of mother, and infant mortality.
