Abstract
It is shown that the formation of a waveguide behind the shock wave front in a high pressure H2-F2 gas mixture can lead to amplification of the output radiation. The magnitude of the amplified radiation corresponds to the initial pressure of the H2-F2 gas mixture in the range 0.041-6.9 atm. In the population inversion region, excited particle concentrations can reach 10 to the 19th per cu cm and waveguide mode gains of less than about 10 to the -2nd per cm have been observed.
