Abstract

The amplitude mode formalism is used to account simultaneously for the first- and second-order resonance Raman scattering in cis-(CH)x. The Raman cross-section is calculated assuming one-dimensional semiconducting band structure with finite electronic lifetimes. The strong overtone structure is the sharply peaked dynamic conductivity and its derivatives. Contrary to previous suggestions, no gap states are needed to explain the strong multiphonon Raman cross-section.
