Abstract

The absorption spectra of benzene in inert gas matrices was investigated in the region 2800 Å to 1200 Å. The second (1B1u) and the fourth (Rydberg) transitions were identified on the basis of vibrational structure, deuteration and matrix spectral shifts. The vibrational structure of the third (1E1u) transition was resolved.
