Abstract

This paper describes a portable and autonomous instrument able to perform and record measurements of environmental 50 Hz magnetic fields according to the three x, y, and z field components over a continuous time period of up to seven days. The RMS values of the field components are stored in local memory, and for further processing, the data are transferred to a personal computer. The measurement range is 1 - 3, 000 nT, while the internal magnetic field noise is about 2 nT. The instrument weighs 1.5 kg, batteries included.
