Abstract
Apollonios of Perge, along with Euclid and Archimedes, was one of the greatest mathematicians of the Hellenistic period. The work for which he is best known is his Conics in Eight Books. Even in the ancient period, this was a celebrated work and was the reason Apollonios came to be known as the “great geometer.” Most of his other works seem to have been geometrical in character, but there are some which may have been of a more general nature, and there is a reference to work he may have done in astronomy.
