Abstract

The conditions of onset and the character of the oscillations developing behind a circular cylinder located above a plane wall (screen) in a flow with a velocity profile of the boundary layer type are studied numerically. The dependence of the critical Reynolds number (at which a steady flow regime in the wake behind the cylinder is replaced by an oscillatory regime) on the cylinder-wall gap and the free-stream boundary layer thickness is found.
