Abstract
Area rules are determined for the normal penetration of a projectile into a ductile target under conditions of the localized projectile-target interaction. Bodies of revolution and three-dimensional projectiles with a close shape and the same distribution of the cross-sectional area along the longitudinal axis are considered. It is shown that the difference in the ballistic limits of the bodies is of the order of ε2 where ε is the order of the difference in their shapes.
