Abstract

A novel method that reduces the bit-error rate (BER) in an optically amplified communications system is proposed. This is achieved by effectively eliminating all the coherent part of the ASE-related beat noise. Exact analysis shows that the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) can be improved by 3db.
