Abstract
Long-range imaging is invariably limited in quality by the atmosphere which blurs, degrades contrast, andattenuatestheimage.Therolesofatmosphericscatter,absorption,andturbulencearediscussedandquantified. Properties of the imaging system as they affect the degradation of the atmospheric image are also considered. Methods of mitigating such undesirable effects through image processing are also discussed, especially blind deconvolution.
