Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) (2015), mental disorders are one of the leading causes of the current global disease burden (GDB). The GDB provides data on the main causes of death and disability worldwide. As a measure, it uses the Disability-Adjusted Life-Years (DALY), which shows the potential years of life lost due to premature death and the years of life lost because of disability or ill health (Barratt, Kirwan, 2009; Shantikumar, 2018). The impact of mental disorders is expected to increase in coming decades, making it critical to deal with stigma in the efforts to reduce this burden.
