Abstract

Because of known analogies between delta cerium and epsilon plutonium, the possibility of a mechanism of self-diffusion in delta Ce resembling that suggested for the abnormal behavior of epsilon Pu by J. A. Cornet in 1970 was investigated by the first author in France and by the second author in Israel. Results are in good agreement. The low values of activation energy and frequency factor obtained in the bcc delta Ce are in accord with the expected mechanism of ″activated interstitials.″
