Abstract

A line at the subharmonic frequency omega 0/2 has been detected in the radiation backscattered from plasmas produced by irradiation of plane targets with a neodymium laser. The dependence of the threshold irradiance on the density scale length over the range 1012 to 1015 W cm-2 has been determined.
