Abstract

Photochemical reaction of W(CO)6 with Ph2Te2 in boiling MeCN gave binuclear complex [W(CO)3(MeCN)(μ-TePh)]2 [W-W 3.127(2), W-Te 2.751(2), and W-N 2.21(1) Å]. It can also be obtained by reacting W(CO)6 with Ph2Te2 in boiling acetonitrile in the presence of Me3NO or by reacting photochemically obtained [NEt4][W(CO)5Br] with Ph2Te2 in boiling MeCN. It was shown that, when reacting with various organic ligands, [M(CO)3(MeCN)(μ-TePh)]2 (M = Mo or W) tends to bind with liberated carbon dioxide to give complexes [M(CO)4(μ-TePh)]2. The structure of the new complex was determined for M = W [W-W 3.1130(6) and average W-Te 2.7543(6) Å].
