Abstract

The development of on-chip photonics has had a big impact on biosensing. Despite the advantages of traditional approaches to the construction of biological sensors, they cannot be used to create easily transportable devices with direct reading of results. On-chip photonics is a promising platform for development of an ideal biosensor that may be employed on-site by unqualified personnel. This chapter describes new and novel techniques of optical biosensing, defines their place among other biosensing techniques, and presents the latest advances in chip-scale complete optical biosensing solutions.
