Abstract
An intermediate assessment of the peculiar hydriding behavior of some intermetallic systems is made. These systems, like LaAlxNi5-x, Zr (AlxFe1-x)2 etc., are characterized by a monotonic increase of the stability of the corresponding hydrides upon the substitution of the 3d atom by Al, and by an unusual behavior of their hydrogen absorption capacity. Investigations by several experimental techniques indicate correlations between the hydrogen absorption capacities in these intermetallic systems and some of their bonding properties. The hydrogen inertness of ZrPd2 and UPd3 is also discussed from the point of view of these correlations.
