Abstract

The use of boronic acids as additives in synthesis and catalysis has been gaining attention in recent years. This chapter is aimed at highlighting the characteristics of boronic acids that support their different roles as additives. We focused on several examples that illustrate the incorporation of boronic acids in catalytic systems in stochiometric or catalytic quantities. These examples provide insight on the mechanistic implication of using boronic acids to enhance reactivity and selectivity and were selected to pique the readers’ curiosity and encourage the use of boronic acids as additives.
