Bose-Einstein condensates beyond mean field theory: quantum backreaction as decoherence

Abstract

Quantum corrections to the Gross-Pitaevski mean field theory (MFT) were measured in a two-mode Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) under currently achievable experimental conditions. A simple theory was derived that accurately predicts the leading quantum corrections and the quantum break time.
