Abstract
Auger electrons are thought to be very effective in tumor cell killing due to their short range that would cause minimal damage to neighboring healthy cells. A minimum energy order of 500eV is needed to create a DNA double strand break in order to kill a cell. This paper presents results of newly-calculated values of electron energy levels in gadolinium atoms together with the results of cell killing by Auger electron emission following the Gd157(n,γ)Gd158 reaction.
