Abstract

Squamous-cell carcinoma of the esophagus occasionally presents as a polypoid lesion. This leads to considerable difficulty in diagnosis and delay in instituting treatment since the most common esophageal polyps are benign. It is important that the radiologist and endoscopist be familiar with the differential diagnosis of such lesions. A telltale area of ulceration is usually present within the polypoid squamous carcinoma and should be biopsied. A patient with a polypoid squamous carcinoma who did not experience dysphagia is described.
