Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease caused by inherited and/or acquired deficiency in production of insulin by the pancreas or by the ineffectiveness of the insulin produced. In this chapter, we describe on the management of type 2 diabetes with an aid of carbohydrate-containing molecules. The carbohydrate-based glucosidase inhibitors and sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors are the major active classes of compounds for the management of diabetes.
