Abstract
Case–control studies are among the most powerful and widely used study designs in epidemiology and medicine. They are used to investigate the influence of risk factors on the occurrence of disease. Case–control studies are conducted by sampling a group of cases and a group of controls and retrospectively comparing them with respect to an exposure. Our aim here is to provide some details on the conduct, sampling, analysis methods, variations, and limitations of the case–control design.
