Abstract
There is provided a coil for magnetic stimulation comprising a base portion, including a central axis defining a base portion right side and a base portion left side, and a return portion. The base portion right side is positioned on a right side of the central axis, and the base portion left side is positioned on a left side of the central axis. The base portion comprises multiple adjacent stimulating elements, which comprise multiple right side stimulating elements and multiple left side stimulating elements positioned in the base portion right side and the base portion left side, respectively. The multiple right side stimulating elements and the multiple left side stimulating elements are configured to carry electrical current in substantially a first direction. At least two adjacent stimulating elements are spaced apart from one another by a distance of at least 2 centimeters. The return portion includes multiple right side return elements and left side return elements, each right side return element being connected to one of the multiple right side stimulating elements and each left side return element being connected to one of the multiple left side stimulating elements. Each right side return elements is positioned further away from the central axis than its connected right side stimulating element, and each left side return elements is positioned further away from the central axis than its connected leftt side stimulating element. Each multiple right side return elements and each multiple left side return element is configured to carry electrical current in substantially a second direction, which is an opposite direction to said first direction. The return portion is spaced a distance away from the base portion.
