Abstract

A heuristic sequential algorithm for fixed channel assignment in cellular mobile networks with nonuniform cells, i.e., cells of different sizes and shapes, is presented. The channel assignment is treated as a nonbinary constraints satisfaction problem. The algorithm uses both the co-channel and adjacent channel interference levels and the number of channel requirements per cell to define the corresponding sequence of assignment. The effects of intercell overlapping and complex propagation mechanisms on the channel assignment results are investigated too.
