Abstract

A new approach for TTD array analysis and synthesis is presented, by exploring the array's spatial-spectral Characteristic Basis Functions (CBF). These CBFs are the set of eigenfunctions of the mapping of the transient spatial excitation to the transient spectral far-field radiation pattern. The analysis of the array's CBFs yields a greater understanding of the connection between array pulsed excitation and the corresponding transient radiation. We also present an optimization algorithm for both short-pulse/UWB and time-harmonic regime based on the theory presented.
